A jury consisting of 5 specialists from the field of architecture and urbanism were appointed to select a number of architectural works in Porto Alegre for a poll to identify the most significant for the public.

Amongst the top five finalists, Ibere Camargo Foundation by Alvaro Siza received unanimous votes by the jury for the quality of the design and its unity of form and function.

The Santander Cultural received the highest amount of votes by the public for its aesthetical beauty and the spatial relationship of the building in the city with their daily life.

IBERE CAMARGO FOUNDATION

Anchored in an 8500 sqm site, the Ibere Camargo foundation consists of a 4 storey structure in white concrete with 5500 meters of build-up area. Monochromic only interrupted at minimal locations, it maintains the privilege of a lumino-technic project: zenith and artificial illuminations reduce shadows on the art works.

PUCRS

The PUCRS multisport building was completed in 2003 by Santini & Rocha architects. It is divided in 2 interlinked blocks which represents distinctive characters. The first is with a strong use glass and the second with a cylindrical volume for visual impact.

JOCKEY CLUB

Faithful to the lines of modernism is the proposal of Uruguayan architect Roman Fresnedo Siri in 1958.

PALACE OF JUSTICE

Conceived by Luis Fernando Corona and Carlos Maximilliano Fayet, the building attracts attention though its boldness and provocation of the historic context. After the fire in Tribunal de Contas, the building was combined with the Sao Pedro theatre. The two formed a modern proposal of regular and simple forms in dialogue with the Matriz Square.

SANTANDER CULTURAL

A neoclassical building of Praca da Alfandega holds a variety of expositions of which some are related with architecture. It is a union of styes.

We can say that recycling resulted in the many styles of use of the building. It gives a new life to the space – Gislaine Sailbro.
